Bristol Grammar School

With Stubbs Rich

The school’s existing library and sixth form centre were outdated and in urgent need of replacement. Stubbs Rich were commissioned to produce a masterplan for the school and a design for a new building. The new library and sixth form centre was to be a landmark building embodying the school’s progressive, forward looking culture.

The placing of the new building brings spatial clarity to the campus by creating a formal quad that enhances the setting of the listed Great Hall. This space, in concert with the internal street of the new building and a new axial connection through the Great Hall, will form a new heart for the school.

The building is arranged around a three storey street with the library at ground floor. The upper levels accommodate the new sixth form centre and a new art department with top lit studios.
